A low-riding terrestrial dry that fools picky sippers. The Black Ant Parachute pairs a slim, segmented body with parachute hackle and a high-visibility post, creating a tiny, flush-in-the-film footprint trout can’t resist during ant falls.
-
When it excels: Late spring through early fall; warm, humid days after rain; under overhanging trees, grassy banks, foam lines, and lake slicks
-
Why it works: Clean black silhouette matches naturals; parachute rides flush for drag-free drifts while the post improves tracking with fine tippet
-
Pack size: 3 flies
-
Targets: Trout (rainbow, brown, brook); bonus takes from panfish on ponds
-
Ready to fish: Sparse, durable tie with consistent proportions for delicate presentations
How to fish it
Use a 9–12 ft leader with 5X–6X and dead-drift over rise rings and soft seams; add tiny micro-twitches if fish inspect but won’t commit. On lakes, target wind lanes and slicks where ants collect. It can carry a very small dropper (midge/pupa) 16–20" behind in calmer water.
Care
Rinse after use and air-dry before boxing. Dress the post and hackle lightly; revive with a powder/shake desiccant after a dunk or fish, keeping the body mostly untreated.
Satisfaction
30-day returns/exchanges.
