A low-riding, easy-to-track mayfly dry that solves picky trout. The Parachute Adams keeps the classic Adams gray/brown body and two-tone hackle, but adds a visible post and parachute hackle so it rides flush in the film for long, drag-free drifts across mixed hatches.
-
When it excels: Spring through fall during mixed mayfly activity; overcast afternoons to evening; gentle riffles, seams, and glassy tailouts
-
Why it works: Parachute footprint sits low like a natural dun; balanced thorax and upright post improve tracking and presentations on fine tippet
-
Pack size: 3 flies
-
Targets: Trout (rainbow, brown, brook)
-
Ready to fish: Sparse, durable tie with consistent proportions for reliable, lifelike drifts
How to fish it
Run a 9–12 ft leader with 5X–6X and make reach or slack-line casts to feed the drift over rise rings and soft seams. If fish inspect but won’t commit, drop one size or switch to an emerger before the peak, then a rusty spinner near dusk. It can carry a very small dropper in moderate water.
Care
Rinse after use and air-dry before boxing. Dress the post and hackle lightly with gel/paste; revive with a powder/shake desiccant after a dunk or fish, keeping the abdomen mostly untreated.
Satisfaction
