A delicate, low-riding mayfly spinner for evening slicks and picky sippers. The Blue Wing Olive Spinner’s slender olive-brown body and outstretched, translucent wings create the classic “spent” silhouette that trout key on after BWO hatches fade.
-
When it excels: Early spring and fall; calm evenings and first dark during/after BWO hatches; glassy tailouts and soft seams
-
Why it works: Rust-olive abdomen and flat, spent-wing profile sit in the film like real BWOs after mating; sparse tie keeps drifts natural on fine tippet
-
Pack size: 3 flies
-
Targets: Trout (rainbow, brown, brook)
-
Ready to fish: Clean proportions and durable wraps for repeatable, drag-free presentations
How to fish it
Use a 10–12 ft leader with 5X–6X and feed slack with reach or slack-line casts; target rise rings and foam lines. Keep the fly riding flat—dress wings lightly and avoid over-treating the abdomen. If fish refuse, drop one size or lengthen tippet.
Care
Rinse after use and air-dry before boxing. Refresh with a powder/shake desiccant; blot gently after a fish to keep the spent posture.
Satisfaction
