A leggy terrestrial that brings trout up when the wind’s on. The Daddy Long Legs (crane fly) throws a lanky, high-visibility silhouette with kicking rubber legs and a buoyant body—perfect for prospecting banks, foam lines, and breezy riffles.
-
When it excels: Late spring through early fall; windy afternoons; grassy banks, undercuts, foam lines, and riffle edges
-
Why it works: Long rubber legs pulse and skate like real crane flies; buoyant body keeps it riding high and easy to track in mixed water
-
Pack size: 3 flies
-
Targets: Trout (rainbow, brown, brook); opportunistic river smallmouth on seams
-
Ready to fish: Durable tie with consistent proportions; floats a light dropper in moderate flows
How to fish it
Make purposeful “plop” casts tight to structure, then dead-drift with occasional twitches to wake fish. Skate it lightly across riffle crests or run as a dry-dropper with 16–24" of 4–5X to a small nymph or midge. Shorten leaders (7.5–9 ft) in broken water for easier turnover.
Care
Rinse after use and air-dry before boxing. Refresh flotation with gel/paste on the body/wing and revive with a powder/shake desiccant after a dunk or fish.
Satisfaction
30-day returns/exchanges.
