A classic, high-floating attractor for prospecting riffles and pocket water. The Royal Wulff’s bold peacock-and-red “royal” body, upright white wings, and bushy hackle throw a loud, easy-to-see footprint that tempts trout even when no specific hatch is on—and it’ll float a light dropper with ease.
-
When it excels: Late spring through fall; windy afternoons; riffles, pocket water, and mixed seams; searching new water
-
Why it works: High-riding deer hair and hackle create a buoyant, visible silhouette; the royal body adds flash and contrast that pulls opportunistic eats
-
Pack size: 3 flies
-
Targets: Trout (rainbow, brown, brook)
-
Ready to fish: Durable tie with consistent proportions; floats a small dropper nymph
How to fish it
Dead-drift with short, accurate casts across seams and pocket edges; add subtle twitches to wake fish in broken water. Run it as a dry-dropper with 16–24" of 5X to a small nymph or midge. Use a 7.5–9 ft leader with 4–5X; shorten in tight, fast water for easier turnover.
Care
Rinse after use and air-dry before boxing. Refresh with gel/paste floatant on hair and hackle, and use a powder/shake desiccant after a dunk or fish.
Satisfaction
30-day returns/exchanges.
