A high-floating, ultra-visible attractor for rough water and mixed light. The White Wulff (Hairwing) uses buoyant deer hair for upright wings and tail plus bushy hackle, throwing a bright, easy-to-track footprint that tempts trout even when no specific hatch is on—and it’ll float a light dropper with ease.
-
When it excels: Late spring through fall; dawn/dusk and breezy afternoons; riffles, pocket water, and mixed seams
-
Why it works: White hair wing pops against glare and shadows; dense hackle and hair tail keep it riding high and stable in chop
-
Pack size: 3 flies
-
Targets: Trout (rainbow, brown, brook)
-
Ready to fish: Durable hairwing tie with consistent proportions; floats a small dropper nymph comfortably
How to fish it
Dead-drift with short, accurate casts across seams and pocket edges; add micro-twitches to wake fish in broken water. Run as a dry-dropper with 16–24" of 4–5X to a small nymph or midge. Use a 7.5–9 ft leader for easier turnover in wind and riffles; lengthen and lighten in slicks.
Care
Rinse after use and air-dry before boxing. Dress hair and hackle with gel/paste; revive after a dunk or fish with a powder/shake desiccant.
Satisfaction
30-day returns/exchanges.
