A fast-sinking, high-visibility attractor nymph for riffles and pocket water. The Bead Head Lightning Bug (Pearl) pairs a bright pearl body with a sleek metal bead, throwing flash and contrast that pull strikes in low light or lightly stained conditions while still drifting naturally.
-
When it excels: Spring through fall; riffles, knee-deep runs, and pocket water; overcast days and post-rain stain; prospecting new water
-
Why it works: Pearl body and bead deliver eye-catching flash and a lifelike trigger; slim build sinks fast and tracks true near the bottom
-
Pack size: 3 flies
-
Targets: Trout (rainbow, brown, brook)
-
Ready to fish: Durable wraps and consistent proportions for repeatable, long drifts
How to fish it
Dead-drift under an indicator at ~1.5× water depth or tightline/Euro with steady contact; add a small split shot 8–12" up if you aren’t ticking bottom. Fish it as a dropper below a buoyant dry (16–24") or behind a heavier point fly, and finish each drift with a gentle lift to flash the body like an ascending nymph.
Care
Rinse after use and air-dry before boxing to prevent hook corrosion.
