A subtle, confidence nymph that sinks at a natural pace. This classic tie features a black thread head (no bead), peacock herl body ribbed with gold tinsel, white biot split wings, a brown biot tail, and a brown soft-hackle collar—the clean, buggy profile trout trust in clear or pressured water.
-
When it excels: Clear/low flows, spooky fish, slow winter drifts, and anytime a bead is too flashy
-
Why it works: Peacock flash + white wing contrast draw attention; slim body and soft hackle keep it natural
-
Size guide: 8–12 = stonefly/attractor; 14–16 = general mayfly; 18–20 = winter/midge crossover
-
Targets: Rainbows, browns, brook trout
-
Ready to fish: Durable wraps, consistent proportions, neat thread head
How to fish it
Dead-drift under an indicator or tightline/Euro with a heavier anchor fly. Start with 4–5X (6X in ultra-clear water). Add a small split shot 8–12" above the fly to reach the bottom. Great as a dropper under a hopper or above a Zebra Midge.
