A versatile, hard-charging baitfish streamer for rivers, lakes, and the surf. The Clouser Minnow’s dumbbell eyes drive a jigging, up-down cadence and make the fly ride hook point-up, while the sparse bucktail wing and flash create a clean, fishy profile that moves naturally without fouling.
-
When it excels: Year-round wherever baitfish are present; low light or lightly stained water; seams, drop-offs, current breaks, and weed edges
-
Why it works: Jigging action + inverted hook reduce snags and trigger strikes; sparse bucktail keeps shape and breathes on every strip
-
Pack size: 3 flies
-
Targets: Trout (especially browns), smallmouth and largemouth bass; also effective for striped bass and other light inshore species
-
Ready to fish: Durable wraps and strong hook; consistent proportions for confident casts and depth control
How to fish it
In rivers, swing it across seams or strip–pause–strip along banks and ledges; let it drop on the pause to tick bottom. In lakes or inshore, count down to depth and use varied strip lengths (short pops to long pulls); a loop knot enhances action. Use 1–3X tippet; choose floating line with heavier eyes for shallow work or a sink-tip to probe deeper.
Care
Rinse after use (especially after salt) and air-dry before boxing. Smooth bucktail fibers between fingers to restore taper and check the hook point regularly.
