A buoyant, high-visibility hopper for summer banks and broken water. The Charlie Boy Hopper uses a durable foam body, a clear, easy-to-see wing, and lively rubber legs to throw a bold, natural silhouette that draws confident topwater eats—even in chop.
-
When it excels: Late spring through early fall; windy afternoons; grassy banks, undercuts, foam lines, and riffle edges
-
Why it works: Foam keeps it riding high for long drifts; the tented wing and rubber legs add realism and motion; purposeful “plop” triggers opportunistic trout
-
Pack size: 3 flies
-
Targets: Trout (rainbow, brown, brook); opportunistic river smallmouth
-
Ready to fish: Durable foam and tight wraps; consistent proportions; high-vis wing for easy tracking
How to fish it
Dead-drift tight to banks with deliberate “plops” near grass and cut banks; add subtle twitches on the drift to wake fish. Run as a dry-dropper with 16–24" of 4–5X to a small nymph or midge. Shorten leaders to 7.5–9 ft in pocket water and step down tippet in ultra-clear conditions.
Care
Rinse after use and air-dry before boxing. Refresh floatation with gel/paste on the wing and a powder/shake desiccant after a dunk or fish.
Satisfaction
30-day returns/exchanges.
