A delicate, low-riding caddis emerger that solves refusals. The CDC Caddis Emerger (Olive) rides in the film with a shimmering CDC wing and a subtle trailing shuck—showing trout that vulnerable “just-hatching” moment they key on in evening hatches.
-
When it excels: Late spring through early fall during olive/green caddis activity; soft seams, slick glides, and glassy tailouts
-
Why it works: CDC traps micro-bubbles and breathes naturally; olive body matches common caddis; trailing shuck screams “emerging insect” without bulk
-
Pack size: 3 flies
-
Targets: Trout (rainbow, brown, brook)
-
Ready to fish: Sparse, clean tie with consistent proportions for long, drag-free presentations
How to fish it
Present on a 9–12 ft leader with 5X–6X and feed slack for a natural, in-the-film drift over rise rings. Fish it 12–24" beneath a buoyant dry as a sighter, or solo with reach/slack-line casts. At the end of each drift, add a gentle lift to imitate the pupa breaking the surface.
Care
Avoid gel/silicone on CDC. After a fish or dunk, blot gently and revive with a powder/shake desiccant or amadou; keep the abdomen and shuck mostly untreated to preserve the low posture.
Satisfaction
30-day returns/exchanges.
