A fast-sinking, confidence nymph for freestones and tailwaters. The Copper John’s slim wire abdomen, heavy head, and bright wing case deliver quick depth and just enough flash to pull strikes in riffles, runs, and pocket water.
-
When it excels: Spring through fall; after light rain bumps; clear to lightly stained water; prospecting new water
-
Why it works: Copper wire body adds flash and durability while the compact profile sinks fast and drifts naturally along the bottom
-
Pack size: 3 flies
-
Targets: Trout (rainbow, brown, brook)
-
Ready to fish: Durable wraps and consistent proportions for repeatable, long drifts
How to fish it
Dead-drift under an indicator at ~1.5× water depth or tightline/Euro as the point fly; add a small shot 8–12" above if you aren’t ticking bottom. Trail a smaller pheasant tail or midge 12–18" behind and finish each drift with a gentle lift to suggest an ascending nymph.
Care
Rinse after use and air-dry before boxing to prevent hook corrosion.
Satisfaction
30-day returns/exchanges.
