A delicate, natural mayfly dry for clear water and picky trout. The Pale Morning Dun’s pale yellow-cream body, light-dun wings, and sparse hackle create a crisp silhouette that matches PMDs on calm mornings and overcast afternoons.
-
When it excels: Late spring through mid-summer; calm mornings and soft afternoon hatches; gentle riffles, seams, and glassy tailouts
-
Why it works: Pale body and clean Catskill-style profile match naturals; low, balanced footprint sits in the film for long, drag-free drifts
-
Pack size: 3 flies
-
Targets: Trout (rainbow, brown, brook)
-
Ready to fish: Sparse, durable tie with consistent proportions for lifelike presentations on fine tippet
How to fish it
Use a 9–12 ft leader with 5X–6X and make reach or slack-line casts to feed the drift over rise rings. Keep dressing light—treat wings and hackle sparingly, leaving the abdomen mostly untreated. If refusals start, drop one size or switch to a PMD emerger before the peak, then a pale/rusty spinner near dusk.
Care
Rinse after use and air-dry before boxing. Refresh with a powder/shake desiccant after a dunk or fish to preserve the low-in-the-film ride.
Satisfaction
30-day returns/exchanges.
