A sparse, low-riding emerger that fools picky trout during olive mayfly hatches. The RS2 (Olive) shows a slender, segmented body, tiny split tail, and a subtle wing/shuck that sits in the film—exactly what fish key on when BWOs trickle.
-
When it excels: Early spring and fall BWO activity; overcast or drizzly days; soft seams, slick glides, and glassy tailouts
-
Why it works: Slim olive abdomen and understated wing/shuck read “vulnerable emerger”; sparse profile lands softly and drifts naturally on fine tippet
-
Pack size: 3 flies
-
Targets: Trout (rainbow, brown, brook)
-
Ready to fish: Clean, consistent proportions for long, drag-free presentations; ties in perfectly as a dry-dropper trailer
How to fish it
Use a 9–12 ft leader with 5X–6X and present slightly above rise rings; feed slack with reach or slack-line casts. Fish it 12–24" under a small dry as a sighter or dead-drift solo; at the end of each drift, add a gentle lift to mimic the ascent of an emerging mayfly.
Care
Blot dry after a fish and revive with a powder/shake desiccant. Keep the body and shuck mostly untreated to preserve the low, in-the-film posture; dress only any wing lightly if needed.
Satisfaction
30-day returns/exchanges.
