A slim, quick-sinking emerger/nymph for tough fish and cold water. The WD-40 Bead Head Nymph (Black) keeps the pattern’s sparse, buggy profile and trailing shuck but adds a bead for fast depth—perfect for midge and small mayfly situations on pressured rivers and tailwaters.
-
When it excels: Late fall through spring; overcast days; tailwaters and spring creeks; soft seams, slow runs, and pool tails
-
Why it works: Black, slender body and subtle shuck read “vulnerable emerger”; bead gets it down quickly and helps maintain contact for long, drag-free drifts
-
Pack size: 3 flies
-
Targets: Trout (rainbow, brown, brook)
-
Ready to fish: Sparse, durable tie with consistent proportions for delicate presentations on fine tippet
How to fish it
Dead-drift under an indicator with 5X–6X or tightline/Euro with steady contact; adjust depth until you tick occasionally. During active midge/BWO hatches, run it 12–24" below a small dry as a dropper, or trail it behind a slightly heavier point fly. Finish each drift with a gentle lift to suggest an emerging insect breaking the film.
Care
Rinse after use and air-dry before boxing to prevent hook corrosion.
